This course provides a broad introduction to the many elements that comprise an information system and briefly explores the underlying information technologies and their impact on business organizations. Emphasis is placed on managers' information needs, the various kinds of support necessary for decision-making, and the functional and strategic implications of information systems for organizations. Through the use of cases, course participants will be expected to demonstrate an awareness of current developments and the ability to identify dominant issues and possible solutions arising from the adoption of new technologies. This course is also designed to increase practical computer skills with MS Office package.

This course teaches the principles, design, implementation and application of database management systems. Students will be able to develop their skills associated with data modeling, database design, data definitions and data manipulation. Students will learn to use structured query language (SQL) with ACCESS database.

This course introduces students to the core concepts and techniques for entering the international marketplace. The significance of economic, technological, political, legal, and socio-cultural factors in the conducting business across borders are discussed. Other concepts covered includes the dynamics of world trade, globalization, multinational enterprise, international finance, interest and exchange rate. The course also aims to highlight the realities of international business; some of its advantages and problems that come when business is conducted on the international stage.

A core aim of the course is to help students identify research problem, develop and use an actionable research proposal. This course utilizes both theoretical and practical exercises to develop student’s skills in conducting field research for business entities. These skills include: developing and defining research problem statements; developing research objectives; utilizing the appropriate design; the use of secondary and primary data collection and instruments; sampling methods; hypotheses testing; data analysis and interpretation.

This course examines the technologies, and concepts behind electronic commerce (e-commerce). E-commerce occurs when consumers or businesses use internet based applications (including personal computers and cell phones) to purchase goods or services online. This course discusses issues related to the technology, logistics, marketing, payment systems, security, privacy, authentication, encryption, web design, and usability. Current practices and opportunities are also described.

BUSI 531 - Management Information Systems

In this course students will learn how to analyze survey data. Topics to be covered include: Frequency and cross-tabulation analyses, ANOVA, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, common method bias and remedies, correlation and regression analyses, structural equation modeling, mediation analyses (Baron and Kenny approach, and Bootstrapping method), moderation analyses, mediation-moderation analyses, moderation-mediation analyses.

The overall objective is to develop knowledge and understanding of scientific research methods and to provide skills to design and accomplish a research project. The course covers methodological and philosophical approaches, research design and planning, survey research and questionnaire design, perform data analyses using qualitative and quantitative research methods and to interpret the results.
